The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre (QEIICC) has increased the capacity of its third floor by 30%. The venue is now able to offer a maximum capacity of 1,300 seated theatre-style by combining the Fleming and Whittle rooms, a development that increases the choice and flexibility of the conferences and events facilities on offer.

Over £1 million has been invested in the third floor expansion. The project involved stripping the room back to its shell and installing new power, IT and audio visual cabling, so that it is more easily accessible.

Visitors now have access to cutting-edge technology, including the introduction of fibre optic tubes. Improved power distribution through a redesign of the wiring systems and upgraded lighting in the Mountbatten Suite, offers greater flexibility for a wider range of events.

Commenting on the improvements, Stephen Norcliffe, commercial director and chief operating officer at the QEIICC, said: “This additional meeting space will allow us to offer an increased scope for future meetings and events, as a result improving flexibility for whole centre bookings and enabling us to help those clients that are looking to grow their events.

“The increasing interest in London as a destination choice in the run up to the Olympics is set to continue post 2012, as with previous Olympic destinations. The QEIICC’s expansion will help us to accommodate this extra interest.

“The expanded capacity will be available when the centre re-opens in September, emphasising our continued commitment to developing quality of service.”
