ExCeL London has announced the appointment of group head of event management James Mark to the newly created position of Olympic project director at the venue.

ExCeL will be hosting seven of the 24 Olympic events and five of the Paralympic events, which gives it more events than any other Olympics venue.

Commenting on the new position, ExCeL chief executive, Kevin Murphy, said: “I am thrilled to appoint James Mark to the new position. He has been with ExCeL since the very early days and thoroughly deserves this accolade.  He will still head up ExCeL’s event management team, but will now be the sole conduit for the 2012 London Olympic Games, reporting directly to the executive management board of ExCeL London.”

Mark added: “I am delighted to be in charge of managing the delivery of the 2012 Olympic events to ExCeL and working with the ODA and LOCOG to ensure that we as a business are structured to deal with it and deliver the greatest Olympic Games ever held, with a strong lasting legacy for London.”
