Reflecting the growth and significance of the Amnesty International Media Awards, this year’s event will take place at a bigger venue.

The Royal Horticultural Halls and Conference Centre’s Lawrence Hall has been selected to host this year’s ceremony, and this will be the third time the organisers have relocated the event in the past four years in order to manage its expanding audience.

“The awards are steadily growing in stature and prestige and have become an important date in the media calendar,” said Samuel Jones, Media Awards coordinator at Amnesty International.

“Over the years, we have seen an impressive increase in the number of entries, indicating that the awards are meeting their objective of increasing the quality and quantity of human rights coverage in the UK media. As a result, we are inviting more people than ever to this year's ceremony and we are confident that the Lawrence Hall can accommodate these additional guests.”

The awards, which take place in June, give recognition to journalists who have brought human rights abuses to light through their reporting, and acknowledge their significant contribution to the UK public’s awareness and understanding of international human rights issues. Hosted by BBC newsreader Moira Stuart, the ceremony is expected to garner over 500 guests, including a range of prominent UK media personalities.

“We chose the Lawrence Hall because it is a big, impressive space, which acts as a blank canvas for our branding,” said Jones. “And so far the service we have had from the sales and operations teams has exceeded our expectations.”

A total of 11 awards will be presented at the ceremony on Tuesday 17 June, including the Special Award for Human Rights Journalism Under Threat and Best Television Documentary and Docudrama.
