The Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) has achieved international benchmarking status for its commitment to the environment.

The venue joins its fellow AEG Ogden-managed centre, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, as well as Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre in being the only convention centres in the world to be recognised by the highly rated international Green Globe Group.

Green credentials: BCEC wins Green Globe

Green Globe is the international benchmarking, certification and improvement system for sustainable travel and tourism established by the World Travel and Tourism Council. Its rigorous accreditation programme ranks businesses and organisations on their environmental practices across a range of operational areas.

Results from the Green Globe audit were testimony to BCEC's green credentials, with the venue surpassing baseline benchmark standards in all 10 of the assessment areas, and significantly above best practice standards in seven.

“The very positive results reflect the centre’s ongoing commitment to our environmental program and our determination to work with clients and suppliers to implement additional sustainability initiatives to further improve our environmental record," said BCEC general manager Robert O’Keeffe. "We aim to put sustainability at the very core of the way we do business.”

This latest achievement for BCEC builds on an already significant sustainability track record, which includes the venue being a founding member of Australia’s Greenhouse Challenge and the formation of an Environmental Task Force, charged with striving to achieve sustainable development and performance through a balance of environmental, economic and social and cultural factors.
