etc.venues has been named as a finalist for the National Recycling Awards 2007, under the category Small Business Recycling Initiative, for its Green Champions scheme. The awards, taking place in November, recognise small businesses that have implemented good practice and creativity to their recycling and waste reduction strategies.
etc.venues, an independent provider of meetings, training and conference space, introduced its Green Champions initiative to each of its seven venues, all of which are located in London. Each Champion is responsible for implementing green activity within their property, looking at reducing the building’s wastage, water and energy consumption. Through these initiatives, etc.venues has been able to reduce its total waste levels by 27% in the past year.
“There are many things etc.venues does as part of its green policies in addition to recycling, which make a real difference to our waste output, water and energy usage,” said Vicki Lovatt, Green Champion at Bonhill House. “Our clients are also becoming more ‘green’ aware and really showing an interest in our initiatives.’’
Etc.venues’ communications manager Di Jones was delighted to be nominated for the award. “As a company, we are committed to controlling and minimising the impact our business has on the environment and offset our environmental impact in other ways as outlined in our CSR policy,” she said. “For example, through our sustainable approach to recycling and our work together with Greenworks.”
The winners will be announced at the awards evening which takes place at the International Centre in Telford on 14 November.
