The Electoral Commission has embarked on a national face-to-face campaign to increase voter registration among students in the UK, 22% of whom are not registered to vote, compared to around 8-9% of the general population.
A two-sided ‘Have you registered?’ graffiti wall will be touring 42 UK university campuses throughout February and March. Students are being encouraged to write messages on the wall about what being able to vote means for them, while trained brand ambassadors explain why voting matters and encourage students to fill out a registration form on the spot.
”By talking directly with students we aim to address any objections or misunderstandings that students may have about voting, and make it as easy as possible for them to register,” said Sharon Richey, managing director of BEcause Experiential Marketing, which is organising the campaign.
