David Levin, the Group chief executive of United Business Media (UBM), yesterday announced the reorganisation of business events, data, web and magazine company CMPi, along with the departure of its chief executive Gary Hughes.
Four business have been created under the CMPi umbrella:
– International Media
– Live Media
– Built Environment
– Conferences
Describing the move as an “evolution”, Levin said: “By separating CMPi into these new businesses we create smaller, more agile, more focused businesses that are closer to their communities, freeing them to move quickly to build the products and services the communities they serve really want and need. In doing this we are learning from the very positive experience of the reorganisation of CMP Technology earlier this year.
“This reorganisation will help us seize the many great opportunities we have to grow our businesses profitably, and we are making this change from position of strength,” he continued. “CMPi’s businesses are progressing well, our
£80m investment in acquisitions over the last three years and our product development efforts are beginning to bear fruit, and we have high hopes for the future of each one of the new businesses.”
Hughes, however, will not be a part of that “future”, having left the company with immediate effect.
Commenting on Hughes departure, Levin said: “In his capacity as chief executive, he has made a huge personal commitment of energy and passion – and these have helped bring CMPi to a point where we could implement this new course. However, the role of chief executive of CMPi is now redundant and as there is no other appropriate role within UBM, he will be leaving the business with immediate effect.”
