National tourism agency VisitBritain has signed a new partnership with TomTom, the world’s largest navigation solutions provider, to put points of interest (POIs), such as quality assessed accommodation, attractions and tourist information centres, onto TomTom’s satellite navigation systems.

The fruit of the collaboration is a unique download service available at www.enjoyengland.com/tomtom that combines all relevant information in an ultimate ‘on the road’ tourism kit. Business and domestic visitors to the UK can easily access and transfer this information to a TomTom device through a unique ‘Add-to-my-TomTom’ button on the website.

The details include the best route to over 5,000 attractions, 17,000 types of accommodation and 500 tourist information centres. Specific icons will appear on screen when visitors draw near to the relevant attractions, tourist information centres and accommodation.

In a couple of simple steps any TomTom user in England can benefit from this unique download. Simply connect your TomTom device to a computer, go to www.visitengland/tomtom and select the preferred tourist information and click on the ‘Add-to-my-TomTom’ button. Then via TomTom HOME, TomTom’s free software application, the selected tourist information is installed on the TomTom device.

“This partnership is a key element in our ambition to use as many different platforms as possible to reach out and engage in new and creative ways with potential visitors,” said Tim Holt, senior partnership executive for VisitBritain’s England marketing division. “It should particularly encourage casual and day visitors, putting them on the right route to a wealth of attractions and quality accommodation, as well as authoritative tourist information.”
