Bosch tours France to promote life-saving car technology

An innovative mobile trailer has been used by technology giant Bosch to get the benefits of its car safety system across to its workforce, the general public and major companies.

The ESP (electronic stability programme) prevents skidding, a major cause of fatal accidents, and Bosch toured France showcasing ESP at ride-and-drive days for Bosch staff and members of the public, featuring live demonstrations, trade displays and a simulator ride so that people could experience the difference that ESP makes.

“This tour featured a specially created and branded expandable ESP trailer with an inbuilt simulator, plus support equipment to create the environment for each event,” explained Mike Richardson, project manager for Mobile Promotions, which supplied the trailer and crew.

Touring started in the heart of France in the town of Moulins, where Bosch produces the ABS brake system and ESP. Factory staff were treated to a simulator ride showing the results of using ESP and how Bosch promotes this revolutionary technology. The Bosch suite was also present at the home of the Shell Eco Marathon at the Nogaro Circuit, of which Bosch is a partner. The event challenges students to design and build a vehicle that can travel the furthest using the least amount of fuel.

The tour then continued to St Ouen, home of the Bosch French headquarters, and onto Drancy in the north, where the French experts of braking systems are located.  The tour culminated in Mortefontaine with a ride-and-drive day organised for senior management of a number of overseas companies with bases France.

“ESP has been heralded as the technology with the highest life-saving potential  since the introduction of the seat belt,” said Véronique Walspeck, the French marketing director for ESP. “In contrast to seat belts, however, ESP is not yet an integral part of a vehicle’s safety equipment.

“A recent study by the University of Cologne shows that 4,000 lives could be saved and 100,000 injuries avoided every year if all cars were equipped with ESP in Europe,” continued Waslpeck. “Our marketing activities focus on increasing the awareness of this live-saving technology. The Mobile Promotions truck with the ESP simulator is a very efficient solution to put under the spotlights the advantages and benefits of ESP.”

The Bosch ESP simulator also appeared at the Mercedes-Benz Van Experience in the UK for an 11-day showcase in June.
