Countryside event protects itself against repeat of 2007 cancellation

Following a disastrous 2007, when the CLA Game Fair had to be cancelled, the organisers of the world`s largest countryside event have taken out insurance against disruption, including adverse weather conditions and infectious diseases such as foot and mouth.

The cover is far reaching, providing protection for the organiser’s revenue, enabling them to meet their commitments to the exhibitors and venue, as well as protecting their anticipated net profit.

“We are looking forward to celebrating our 50th anniversary,” said CLA Game Fair director David Hough. “Our event is the highlight of the year for many visitors and our exhibitors rely on the business generated at our annual event. Therefore, this insurance will provide the CLA, our exhibitors and visitors with the confidence that they will be financially safe in the unlikely event of our show being disrupted again.

“Following the unprecedented cancellation of the 2007 show we have worked diligently with both our broker and the insurance industry to find the right cover. This has taken into account the unreliability of the British summer as well as the increasing cases of infectious diseases, which can restrict the public’s access to the countryside in a matter of hours.”

Event specialist Event Assured has insured the show, with its director Rob Bentley saying: “The CLA Game Fair is one of the UK’s most prestigious outdoor events, attracting more than 130,000 visitors each year and 900 exhibitors over a three day period. To cancel or change such an event at short notice places great strain on the organiser’s relationships with all those involved but more significantly, the financial costs can be overwhelming. The purchase of the right insurance protects the organiser’s business in such circumstances.

“Putting together the right package for this event was exciting and challenging. The CLA’s management of the event is superb; they demonstrated a depth and quality of knowledge that inspired trust and confidence, allowing us to provide a comprehensive level of cover for a competitive premium.”

The CLA Game Fair 2008 will take place from 25-27 July at Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire. Information is available at www.gamefair.co.uk
