Novotel London West's general manager, Michael Sloan, has joined the board of the Meetings Industry Association (MIA) following the association's annual general meeting on Monday 10 March 2008.

His role on the board will be to drive membership to the associate part of the MIA.

"I am looking forward to the challenges ahead," said Sloan. "The MIA has taken enormous steps in the last few years and it's a really exciting time to be involved with the association.

"Novotel London West is already part of the MIA's AIM venue accreditation scheme, which is helping to raise standards within the industry," he added.

Commenting on the appointment, Nick Milne, the MIA's new chairman, added: "We are delighted to have Michael join the board. I am confident he will help to grow our associate membership and as a result strengthen the MIA's position within the industry."
