Sheepdrove Eco Conference Centre in Berkshire, which claims to be one of the greenest event spaces in the world, has launched a new initiative to help clients offset their carbon footprint.

Either on a personal or corporate level, all attendees at events will be given the opportunity to offset the carbon cost of their travel to the centre through tree and hedgerow planting on site.

The conference centre, owned by the outspoken publisher and environmental campaigner Peter Kindersley, is built on a 2,500 acre organic farm. Guests wishing to offset the carbon they created on their journey to the centre can either purchase and plant the trees, shrubs and plants themselves or purchase them for the centre's ongoing education initiatives, teaching local children the importance of organic farming and environmentally friendly practices.

Plant hire: Sheepdrove gives conference organisers the chance to offset

"While public transport links to Sheepdrove are relatively good and we have extensive links with local transport companies, all of which help our clients minimise the environmental impact of their travel, we also recognise that many people drive to the centre and wish to offset that ecological cost – particularly when they see the work taking place on the farm and in the centre," said Sheepdrove Eco Conference Centre manager Russell Downing.

"Offsetting should be the last step in a long list of measures to lessen our impact on the environment but it is often necessary and this initiative will help clients go the last few paces in the sustainable journey that started when they booked their event at Sheepdrove."
