Farnborough International Limited (FIL), organiser of the world’s largest and most iconic airshow, is opening a new events venue this autumn.

Called FIVE (Farnborough International Venue and Events), the venue is a permanent events space on the airshow site at Farnborough Aerodrome in Hampshire.

“I’m extremely positive and upbeat about FIVE,” said the new venue’s business development manager, Suzanne Allis. “We are highly encouraged by the response from all areas of the marketplace regarding both the concept and design, and look forward to introducing what will be the first venue of its kind in the UK later this year. FIVE offers FIL a fantastic opportunity to extend and develop its event offering, and further enhance its reputation for world-class events.”

According to FIL, FIVE’s design is centred on adaptability and flexibility of interior and exterior space. The venue has been “designed to appeal to a maximum client base and can be flexible in usage”, offering an ideal space for large events and exhibitions. Equally, it can be adapted for smaller groups requiring venues for meetings, conferences and corporate events. Confirming FIVE’s unique status, it is the first bespoke building of its kind in the UK to be used as a permanent venue for events.

At 4,400 square metres of flexible event space, and 3,600 square metres of unimpeded event space, FIVE will be the largest venue of its kind in the south of England and is unique within the M3/M4 corridor. It is an unbranded, clear span structure, created in recycled aluminium and grey silver composite panels, with glass window and door detailing and inclusive access throughout.

FIVE’s green credentials are also impressive, meeting the expectation for venues to have strong environmental as well as business credentials. FIVE is fully signed up to achieving agreed levels of sustainability. As mentioned previously, the structure contains recycled aluminium, while the water systems all have eco-control, and the building will have energy-efficient lighting. An off-site recycling scheme is being researched and developed, with the assistance and co-operation of Rushmoor Borough Council, to ensure that materials are disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. The local supply chain has been actively encouraged and promoted, to reduce transport miles. Moreover, suppliers to FIVE will be asked to provide a full sustainability policy.
